Bioidentical Hormones

Synthetic hormones such as Premarin and Provera are chemically different than the hormones the human body produces. They work by binding to the same receptor sites to which our naturally produced estrogen and progesterone hormones bind. Synthetic hormones can produce adverse effects, and their use may be associated with significant health risks.

Bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones made by your own body. Bioidentical hormones may be associated with fewer side effects, and a woman’s body may be more responsive to these hormones. To create bioidentical hormones, a compounding pharmacist prepares combinations of estradiol, estriol, and estrone, progesterone, and other hormones derived from natural sources.
